Find out how Dentaid has prepared for the future with S/4HANA on AWS and Zoi.
Dentaid has been on a mission to harmonize the business processes of its global subsidiaries with the headquarters. As a first step, Dentaid migrated their SAP ERP systems to the AWS Cloud in 2019 with the help of Zoi's structured migration methodology: the Zoi Migration Factory for SAP.
With the looming end of the maintenance period for existing SAP systems scheduled for 2027, Dentaid wanted to proactively move to S/4HANA. The proposal was to first convert the headquarters and then roll out the new system to the subsidiaries.
For a globally operating company such as Dentaid, SAP S/4HANA in the cloud is the best ERP system to build bridges between different business units and streamline operations.
With SAP S/4HANA, companies gain new capabilities, including intelligent automation driven by artificial intelligence, industry-specific workflows based on best practices, and vastly improved performance relative to other SAP systems.
Additionally, S/4HANA provides an excellent foundation for developing other SAP solutions (e.g. BI) and integrating with other applications thanks to its microservices approach.
The project architecture combines SAP and AWS Cloud services.
The AWS Cloud complements SAP S/4HANA perfectly since it adds the benefits of being scalable, secure, and widely accessible.
As an AWS Premier Partner with AWS SAP Competency, and a multi-layered SAP Partner, Zoi was perfectly positioned to help Dentaid accomplish its goals. Zoi has carried out more than 50 SAP migration projects in the cloud and as a result has developed a structured and rigorous migration approach to designing, building, automating, and managing SAP systems and workloads on the AWS Cloud.
There are two standard approaches for converting SAP ERP R3 to S/4HANA: a Greenfield approach (i.e. new implementation or re-implementation) and a Brownfield approach (i.e. system conversion).
In Dentaid’s case, the migration was carried out using a Brownfield approach. This was because the company's SAP R3 system was relatively “young” (implemented in 2014) and had a very low level of customization. The Brownfield approach allows a production system to be updated without the need to change the operating processes. As a result, the individual and well-established processes of the company are preserved and all historical data can be accessed in the new system.
Dentaid utilized the AWS Cloud's feature of effortlessly creating various copies of their environments with distinct rest cycles that can be resumed later, such as copies for training or acceptance test environments. Hence Dentaid was able to do several cycles, going back and forth when needed, all while paying solely for the environments they utilized at any particular moment.
With their cloud first approach and the AWS Cloud's flexibility and convenience, they were able to significantly accelerate their conversion process to S/4HANA.
AWS has co-innovated with SAP since 2008 and was the first provider to host SAP workloads in the cloud. Since then, AWS has continued to lead the way and today offers more than 200 services to help companies get the most out of their business-critical SAP systems. With more than 5,500 active SAP customers on AWS (more than half running with SAP HANA solutions), AWS is the leading platform when it comes to hosting these types of environments in the cloud.
Have your entire infrastructure on AWS in minutes to implement SAP S/4HANA. Create several Sandbox and/or training environments and connect with satellite systems, perform several conversion cycles to S/4HANA in a dynamic and agile way. Get rid of them when you no longer need them and pay only for what you use. Above all, forget about the weeks and even months of waiting that traditional infrastructures entail.
Pay only for the computing, storage, and resources you use. You can achieve savings of up to 71 % compared to the local use of SAP systems.
Use only the infrastructure and memory required for your SAP S/4HANA system. Dynamically adapt to your usage and scale up or down depending on specific needs.
Implement your disaster recovery strategy from the design at a low-cost thanks to AWS native tools, such as Elastic Disaster Recovery, or rely on SAP technology to do it, for less than half the cost of local.
