CLOUD MIGRATION USING A PROVEN APPROACH

Daufood wanted to migrate their flagship apps to the Cloud and together with Zoi developed an approach that would go through 5 waves including setting up a Landing Zone, migrating their ordering systems, configuring a state-of-the-art firewall, migrating several of their databases and other business applications in the process.

The plan was to perform the migration over 24 months, with each wave being completed subsequently. It was important to phase in the new cloud setup gradually while the old systems were phased out.

A STRUCTURED MIGRATION APPROACH

The cloud migration would use Zoi’s structured approach to migrations called the Zoi Migration Factory which follows 3 phases: Assess, Mobilize, and Migrate & Modernize.

Before the migration began, a Landing Zone was set up and a Well-Architected Review was conducted and assessed based on 6 key pillars: Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance, Cost Optimization, and Sustainability. As a result of the analysis and considering the company's needs in terms of security and business continuity, the workloads to be migrated were prioritized, and wave plans were created.

Overall, the migration plan involves migrating the Kiosk application, configuring a firewall, migrating the ECHO platform, and updating transactional ERP application databases.

AWS Services such as AWS Security Hub and GuardDuty will be used to detect and investigate security events. EBS resources, AMI snapshots, RDS, S3, and EFS will be encrypted as an additional security layer. The final architecture will then use auto-scaling groups to help the workloads adapt to the growth of the business. Ultimately, the platform will be designed to be as secure and scalable as possible.

Zoi's migration plan helped Daufood to successfully migrate their applications to the AWS Cloud. The migration has enabled Daufood to take advantage of the latest cloud technologies, scale their infrastructure as per their business needs, and optimize their infrastructure expenses while ensuring a resilient, secure, and scalable infrastructure.

ABOUT DAUFOOD

Daufood owns the Domino’s Pizza master franchise in various countries around Europe. With a total of fourteen franchises, it has become the world’s first franchisee of the brand in terms of the countries in which it operates. It currently has more than 950 employees and more than 130 stores.

AGEING ON-PREM INFRASTRUCTURE

Daufood had the majority of their IT infrastructure on-premise. Managing and provisioning on-premise infrastructure is a challenge for many companies, especially in times of growth. Sourcing, provisioning, installing, and maintaining physical infrastructure requires specialized training and facilities which pose many challenges.

Daufood were aware of the benefits the cloud brings and were keen to adopt a cloud-first approach. However, moving to the Cloud requires specialized knowledge and Zoi, as an AWS Premier partner, can help address this challenge.
